... Alternatively, various mediums can be thought of as different worlds or environments that influence how the characters act, what they are capable of, what is important to them, and what is considered probable or natural in that world.  This piece explores several mediums as different environments that influence how a person might think or act.  The same persona, identified by the striped shirt and glasses, is found in various mediums throughout the piece in which that persona is characterized in different ways.  Although the characters in each medium are very different, is it possible that they all could really be the same person, much in the same way that our actions and perceptions depend on the environment we find ourselves in at the moment?

The idea ... continues

The stories we tell are often greatly influenced by the medium through which they are presented.

One can think of this as a result of a medium's style, and natural ability to convey certain ideas and emotions.

the idea:

One action that can be greatly influenced by our environment is the way we communicate with one another, and how we interact with communication technology.  Each segment presents various means of communication: an iPod, a cell phone, and verbal communication.  These modes of communication have different purposes and different meanings in each segment to illustrate how communication might be perceived differently.

Although each medium appears to be an isolated world when viewed from within, an external observer might see how these worlds are connected with each other. Each individual medium is brought together with the others to explore ways in which these worlds could be connected. In each of the stories, the characters are unaware of their global environment beyond the medium in which they live, and yet, like the comic book that appears in all of the other segments, they exist within each other.  The combined video plays all of the segments in a seamless loop to show that each world can be linked to any of the other worlds.  Some of the characters end up feeling trapped or lost in the world in which they exist, coming close to the awareness of a world outside their own.  Do we find ourselves being lost within the media-saturated world in which we find ourselves?  Is there a world beyond what we can see?
